Donor Drops

Introduction

I received a blood transfusion when I was only days old that saved my life. I owe my existence to blood donors that I never met. As a result, I have given gallons of blood over the years and have been a staunch support of the cause. With the excitement around NFTs, I want to see if I can to use this force to promote blood donation and accumulate funds for the either Red Cross or another blood collection agency.

Donor Drops is an experiment to determine if I can sell NFTs to generate advocacy for blood donation. It is estimated that only 35% of us can donate at any point in time, but all of us can be advocates. A purchaser of a Donor Drop not only gets a NFT to collect, but can be a powerful advocate just by raising awareness. Furthermore, I am committed to donating at least 75% all the proceeds of this little experiment, maybe more if it blows up. I’ll start by taking less than the app store and adjust. The aim here to promote a good cause first and foremost.

Types

In order to make it fun, the inititial collection of 100 Donor Drop NFTs is generatedin line with the distribution of each blood type according to the World Atlas:

Color

In addition to Red the most common color of blood, I want to use other colors as well. Without being overtly political about it, the color palette I’ve chosen comes from the Gilbert Baker flag. I believe blood is blood and it really doesn’t really matter who donates.

In summary, the initial run will be small and exclusive in its own way. My hope is that each Donor Drop takes on a life of its own on the blockchain, a permanent momento for donors to enjoy. And if there is additional interest, I have ideas for broadening the collection.
